Air Traffic Controller
The Quick Pitch:
Think of Air Traffic Controllers as the ultimate air-traffic choreographers. They run the sky from the ground, ensuring multi-million-dollar jets stay miles apart while staying on schedule
What Do They Actually Do?
Have you ever wondered how hundreds of planes fly in the same airspace without bumping into each other? That’s ATC! They guide aircraft during taxiing, takeoff, cruising, and landing using radar, computers, and visual observations. Take this aptitude test to discover whether you have the focus, quick thinking, and multitasking skills needed to become an Air Traffic Controller.
Everyday responsibilities include:
· Directing planes on the ground and in the air.
· Giving pilots clearance for takeoff and landing.
· Handing off flights smoothly from one radar sector to the next.
Updating pilots on severe weather, runway changes, and emergency scenarios.
The Three Flavor Profiles of ATC:
1. Tower Controllers: Located in the tall glass towers right at the airport. They manage everything you can see out the window—runway traffic, taxiways, and immediate takeoffs/landings.
2. Approach Controllers: Stationed in radar rooms. They manage the “traffic bubble” around busy airports, lining up incoming flights like cars merging onto a highway.
3. Area (En-Route) Controllers: The highway patrol of the high skies! They guide jets flying at cruising altitudes across entire countries or continents.
📍 Macedonia Fun Fact: In North Macedonia, Area Controllers cover all airspace above FL 145 (~4,500 meters up). The main Area Control Center is right at Skopje International Airport, alongside Skopje Terminal & Tower Control! (Ohrid Airport has its own Tower and Approach team).
How Do You Get In?
· Requirements: High school diploma, age 25 or under (when job openings drop), and top-tier focus/multitasking skills.
· The Test: You’ll sit for FEAST (First European Air Traffic Controller Selection Test), a gaming-like aptitude test created by Eurocontrol.
· The Perk: If you pass FEAST and medical checks, your entire training academy is 100% funded by M-NAV a.d. Skopje! You get paid to learn on high-tech simulators before going live with a mentor.
